Welcome to our inaugural TNG Preseason State Top 50, previewing the 2022 6A Texas High School Football season. This is the feature post within our 2022 Season Preview.
Realignment years always bring fresh interest and intrigue due to district reshuffling, leading to potential massive shifts in the balance of power between the Division 1 and Division 2 playoff landscape. This year is no different with the Austin Westlake Chaparrals, our clear preseason #1, looking to have a great chance to return to Division 1, setting up a potential semifinal meeting with our preseason #2 North Shore. Those two, of course, met in a classic at Legacy Stadium in the 2020 semifinals when both North Shore and Westlake were defending state champions, just as the case would be if they met again this fall.
Duncanville, coming in at #3, will be right in the mix yet again. #4 DeSoto checks in as our top rated team potentially heading the Division 2 route with Katy and Denton Guyer just behind them. #7 Southlake Carroll could also go Division 2, riding the strength of their offense.
Perhaps the most surprising team in our Top 10 is #8 Humble Summer Creek. Summer Creek gave Katy all they wanted and then some at Rice Stadium last fall and the Bulldogs return a huge percentage of their key players in 2022. A potential, mouth-watering 4th round rematch with Katy looms. Rounding out our Top 10 are The Woodlands and Lake Travis who will surely factor in the Division 1 playoff gauntlet.
#18 Dripping Springs checks in as our highest rated newcomer, with perhaps one of the best offenses in the state, while Katy Paetow at #21 isn’t far behind even with a new coaching staff coming off their 5A State Championship.
