The top of the rankings again held steady while a group of teams made moves up into the 30s, positioning themselves to make a run for the top 25 in the latter part of the season. #10 through #21 continues to be tightly bunched with only a field goal worth of Elo separating this group.
Remember, in an Elo ratings system, teams are not docked at all if they win, but the amount of points they gain will be less if they underperform relative to their expected margin of victory. At the same time, teams that lose cannot gain Elo points. Much of the movement that we see in the rankings is just due to teams’ gains or losses relative to those around them.
Here are the main takeaways from the new set of rankings:
Austin Westlake was able to slightly extend their lead at the top following their 29-10 win over previously #12 Dripping Springs
Austin Vandegrift breaks into the top 10 with their win over previously #21 ranked Round Rock
Byron Nelson makes the biggest move in the top half of the rankings with a six spot move solidly into the top 25
Several teams that are performing really well lately have made moves into the 30s range, such as Lewisville, Katy Tompkins, and North Crowley
Klein Cain moves back into the Top 50, along with a new appearance from Bridgeland following their big upset win over Cy Ranch
Without further ado, here’s the new TNG Top 50 for Week 9:
